‘How Cool Are You’ Exercise

A Healthy Exercise in Human Psychology!
All to often we ‘fall into the gap.’ That is, we tend to only see what’s wrong with this picture. Most people, but not all, feel less than, or have an insufficient self-image. Hundreds of books have been written on this subject and I’ve been reading on positive psychology which aims at setting up a more loving and inspiration view of ourselves. If we love ourselves and feel better about ourselves, this leads to a higher level of confidence and confidence afterall, means we are actually able to accomplish more, achieve better results in our interactions with others.

So the exercise is to make a list of at least ten things that make you a ‘cool cat.’ What is it about you that makes you special? Or lovely? Or courageous? Or a Hero? Or a great parent? Or a decent person? If you can focus and come up with a list qualities or even specific incidences where you performed, met another’s need, rose to the occasion, save someone from humiliation, write it down and give it validity in your own mind.

This type of exercise is meaningful and powerful. It’s actually healthful and sets up your internal systems responsible for health to respond in the best ways possible when you are challenged with sickness.

So go ahead and actually find a little secret place, a diary or journal, a hidden file on your computer where you can boast about your best accomplishments to yourself… Build your own branding commercial about how your are the best as….. fill in the blanks.

The next time you face a discouraging bout of anxiety or you just get down, you’ll have a got to list that will work as an antidote to malady.

Cherokee story:

One evening, an elderly
cherokee brave told his
grandson about a battle that
goes on inside people.

he said “my son, the battle is
between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.
one is evil. it is anger,
envy, jealousy, sorrow,
regret, greed, arrogance,

Here’s a short list of “I am cool because..” in pictures:

1. High Five everyone! (I am genuinely happy most of the time… Because I pay attention to my level of fitness and I eat well and take my nutritonal supplement religiously.

2. I replaced a ceiling fan – the box said 5 minute installation… It only took me 90 minutes! The hare never made it but the tortoise did.

3. In my dreams I am a catmaran captain.
