I get really mad at the TV. So I don’t watch it much.

I would rather read books. Or blogs. Or even, dare I say it, email.

Email has a benefit. I can learn from peoples’ stories. If I don’t like something, I can spout off, and smack back. Unless of course a robot emailed me. Then my response falls into the nether world of … who knows where those digital electrons go to die. Unfortunately, that happens a little too often.

I was mad over the weekend, despite it being such a beautiful weekend. The Journal of Internal Medicine published a very lame report that basically said, “We read 1017 studies about sick people with heart disease. We can’t see that Omega-3 helped them very much. More study is needed.”

Of course this flies in the face of hundreds of published studies that show the exact opposite. They didn’t read the landmark studies, they were wading in murky waters. Omega-3s do help all human beings regardless of condition.

American Heart Association: “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of, or who have, cardiovascular disease.”

It’s true, we are all going to die. That’s a given. Very few escape. “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”

Cool! If I die, then I will bring forth much fruit. It might be a parable about dying to personal desire to accomplish some greater good. Missing sleep to care for a baby might be considered a foreshadowing of losing yourself in a greater purpose. But it’s nice to know that you can have a strategy even in dying.

So if you are willing to accept that all human beings, like plants in your garden, are only here for a season, then you have a choice. Option A: Be carefree and come what may, “eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.” Or options B: Be wise in your decisions, in your eating, in your thinking, in your exercise, your work, your relationships and care about yourself and those around you.

[Aside:] Those secret service agents in Columbia unfortunately appear to be part of the former group. But hey, they do have the mission of jumping in front of the bullet so they can almost be forgiven, but they should have been off mission when indulging themselves like that. But what do I know?

If you belong to the latter group and I am sure you do, since the former group won’t read this far, then you can make a real difference. You can live longer, live better, be healthier, enjoy a robust and wholesome life. Take your Omega-3s today and prosper! I am going to take mine now.

This weekend we planted some large hairy bulbs harvested from last years crop of elephant plants. These are very large and leafy ornamental plants. Those bulbs looked really dead, but they were just dormant. Insert into the ground, add water and poof, Magic!

Thanks Laura, great testimonial to the power of Omega-3s and common sense! A side note concerning eggs: I found a farm where I can get eggs from pastured, free range chicken. You can’t believe the difference in quality and taste. One egg completely satisfies! Most nutritionists have finally come round to agreeing that dietary cholesterol may account for only 5% of blood cholesterol. The liver produces blood cholesterol according to the demand the body makes for a host of reasons: hormone production, vitamin conversion, and the many other functions where cholesterol is vital. Most agree that it’s inflammation mixed with cholesterol that causes heart disease. That’s why Omega-3s work so well over the long haul, the anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks again for the testimonial! -Garey
